(670 The Score) The White Sox will hire Ethan Katz as their new pitching coach, according to multiple reports Thursday.

Katz, 37, most recently served as a Giants assistant pitching coach this past season, and he also has ties to White Sox ace Lucas Giolito. Katz was a coach at Harvard-Westlake School in California when Giolito played there coming up through the prep ranks. The two have maintained a close relationship since.

Katz worked in the organizations of the Angels and Mariners before joining the Giants. He pitched in the low levels of the minor leagues himself from 2005 to 2008 before turning to coaching.

The White Sox fired longtime pitching coach Don Cooper on Oct. 12, the same day they fired manager Rick Renteria.

News of Katz’s hiring was first reported by Dave Williams of Barstool Sports.
