(670 The Score) Left-hander Martin Perez has agreed to join the White Sox on a one-year, $5-million deal, according to multiple reports Wednesday afternoon. The deal is pending a physical.
Perez, 33, posted a 4.53 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 135 innings across 26 starts for the Pirates and Padres in 2024. He carries a 4.44 ERA across 13 MLB seasons. Perez was an All-Star in 2022, when he had a 2.89 ERA.
There figures to be plenty of opportunity for Perez and others to earn a rotation spot after the White Sox traded ace Garrett Crochet to the Red Sox in December. Jonathan Cannon (21 starts), Davis Martin (10 starts) and Drew Thorpe (nine starts) and Nick Nastrini (eight) are the White Sox’s returning starts leaders from 2024. No one else currently under contract made more than four starts for the White Sox in 2024.
