After initially targeting former Rams and Seahawks assistant Andy Dickerson, the Patriots have reportedly shifted gears in their search for a new offensive line coach.
According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, New England is hiring former Browns assistant offensive line coach Scott Peters to their offensive staff. This comes on the heels of Dickerson taking the job as Cleveland's offensive line coach, replacing Bill Callahan.
Peters, 45, played interior offensive lineman at Arizona State and was a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2002. He retired in 2009 after seven seasons of NFL action.
Peters returned to the game in 2020, this time as a coach, on head coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt's staff with the Browns. He served as Cleveland's assistant offensive line coach for the last four seasons.
A Brazilian jiu-jutzu world champion, Peters is known to use his mixed martial arts techniques to help train the offensive lineman he coaches.
The hiring of Peters to the Patriots' staff is their third such hire on the offensive side of the ball this offseason. He joins the brass of coordinator Alex Van Pelt and senior assistant Ben McAdoo in helping turn around New England's offense.
