Memphis holds the No. 16 pick acquired via Orlando and remains in the market for a versatile wing. Washington State senior Cedric Coward has rocketed up draft boards, combining a 6‑5¼″ frame with a staggering 7‑2¼″ wingspan and career ~38–40 % accuracy from deep. Despite playing just six college games last season due to a shoulder injury, he averaged 17.7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on over 55 % shooting. Scouts rave about his “3-and-D” upside—strong off-ball shooting (90th percentile spot‑ups), smooth post-up skills, and disruptive length on defense.
Many mocks slot him in the mid‑to‑late first round (15–20 range), with Memphis a likely suitor in that spot. If Memphis selects Coward at 16, they’d be betting on his high upside as a switchable, shooting wing who could contribute early and grow into a core rotational piece. Of course the possibility remains that Memphis could package up assets and trade the #16 pick.
