Danielle Redlick was found not guilty of second-degree murder charges. Redlick was found guilty of tampering with evidence in the case. The murder charge was connected to the 2019 death of former Grizzlies Executive Michael Redlick in their Florida home.

Danielle Redlick could have seen life in prison, or up to 15 years if deemed manslaughter. Danielle Redlick turned down a plea deal for manslaughter that would have included 10 years in prison for murdering her husband at their home.

Michael Redlick spent eight years with the Memphis Grizzlies as Executive VP overseeing corporate sales and marketing efforts for the franchise starting when they moved here in 2001. Danielle actually worked for Entercom Broadcasting selling radio advertising in Memphis for the company.

The couple were living in Florida where Michael was working at the University of Central Florida as director of external affairs and partnership relations for the DeVos Sport Business Management Program.

Along with having a Memphis connection, this murder trial took on several interesting twists and turns because of previous emails and testimony that emerged. Danielle wrote an earlier email saying she was unhappy in the marriage and compared words they've said to each other to those that cut like a knife. The prosecution pointed out that Danielle was on a dating site in the early morning hours after his death.

"I know I'm bitter at times and, no, it's not pretty and I do need to get a grip as you put it. But you have a lot of nerve as well although my words may be cutting, they are only sounds — a dull knife compared to the sharp, disloyal, deceiving, phony and never-ending selfish knife you continue to twist in my back as if it's a sport at this point," the emailed quoted from Danielle Redlick said.

Another interesting tidbit many in the public were fascinated by was that Michael was actually Danielle's step-father prior to their marriage, before her mother passed away.

The defense is arguing it was self-defense but prosecutors argue she recklessly killed Michael Redlick prior to tampering with evidence and lying about the whole thing.

This particular murder trial wasn't the center of public judicial attention for much of the past year due to the Johnny Depp trial, but still managed to catch much national attention:

Danielle Redlick will be sentenced on August 5th, 2022.
