The No. 16 Memphis Tigers clinched the American Athletic Conference regular-season title with a hard-fought 75-70 victory over the UTSA Roadrunners on Tuesday night. Memphis improved to 25-5 overall and 15-2 in conference play, while UTSA fell to 11-18 (5-12 AAC).
Memphis built a 13-point lead, but UTSA rallied, narrowing the gap to two points with three minutes remaining. The Roadrunners misfired on five consecutive shots in the final minutes, unable to capitalize on opportunities to tie or take the lead. Memphis secured the win by converting free throws in the closing seconds.
UTSA's Jonnivius Smith led all scorers with 18 points off the bench, while Marcus Millender added 16 points. Primo Spears contributed 14 points and seven assists, and Tai'Reon Joseph chipped in 12 points. Despite forcing 22 turnovers, UTSA was outrebounded 45-25 and shot 38.7% from the field.
Memphis's balanced attack and resilience down the stretch were pivotal in securing the victory and the conference title. Both teams now turn their attention to the upcoming AAC tournament, with UTSA aiming to build on its competitive performance.
