UNLV expected to hire former Memphis Coach Josh Pastner

Pastner went to the NCAA Tournament four times with Memphis and once with Georgia Tech winning Coach of the Year in both C-USA & the ACC

UNLV is expected to hire Josh Pastner as head men’s basketball coach, bringing in a veteran leader with a strong coaching pedigree. Pastner, who previously coached at Memphis and Georgia Tech, is known for his recruiting ability, player development, and high-energy approach. His hiring signals UNLV’s ambition to return to national prominence in college basketball. Memphis will host the UNLV Runnin' Rebels in the upcoming 2025-26 season. Pastner recently appeared on the Jason & John Show and talked about his desire to return to coaching.

Pastner, 46, spent seven seasons at Georgia Tech, where he led the Yellow Jackets to an ACC Tournament title in 2021. Before that, he served as head coach at Memphis from 2009 to 2016, compiling a 167-73 record and making four NCAA Tournament appearances. His tenure at Memphis included four straight 24+ win seasons, though he faced challenges in maintaining that success later in his stint. After leaving Tech Pastner joined ESPN and other outlets as a college basketball analyst.

At UNLV, Pastner takes over a program with a rich history but one that has struggled to regain its former glory. The Runnin’ Rebels last made the NCAA Tournament in 2013. His ability to recruit and develop talent will be crucial in revitalizing the program.
