Jarvis Landry: I'm 'trying my best' to recruit Odell Beckham Jr. to Saints

Nine years after they last played together at LSU, Jarvis Landry says he is indeed hopeful that Odell Beckham Jr. will join him with the New Orleans Saints.

In an appearance on WWL's "Sports Talk With Bobby Hebert and Kristian Garic," Landry acknowledged that he has tried to sell Beckham on the idea of returning to New Orleans, where they starred together collegiately.

“I’m trying my best," Landry said. "First of all I wish my brother a happy recovery, but I am trying my best.”

Following a disappointing stint in Cleveland, Beckham revived his career with the Los Angeles Rams in the second half of the 2022 season, heating up during the team's Super Bowl run. Before tearing his left ACL in the second quarter of the team's eventual Super Bowl LVI win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Beckham had two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.

It should be noted that Beckham admitted that he was "very close" to signing with the Saints after the Browns released him in November, before he ultimately elected to join the Rams.

Given that Beckham sustained the injury in February, it's unclear when he'll be ready to play during the 2022 season. That explains why Beckham -- who will turn 30 in November -- hasn't yet been signed.

While he and Landry were teammates for parts of three seasons in Cleveland, getting the chance to play together for the Saints would probably be pretty special for the two. Not only would playing together in New Orleans be a a full circle moment for the two, but given how little chemistry Beckham had with Baker Mayfield, he and Landry would probably have a lot more fun than they did in Cleveland.

The Saints had one of the worst groups of wide receivers in 2021, but have already drastically improved at the position by signing Landry and trading up to select Chris Olave with the No. 11 overall pick. Two-time All-Pro Michael Thomas is also expected back after missing a majority of the last two seasons. If you added Beckham to a group that also includes Marquez Callaway, Jameis Winston and company would be set up very well to be one of the better passing attacks in the NFC.

Of course, the Rams would probably love to bring back Beckham as they attempt to repeat as Super Bowl Champions. The New England Patriots have also been mentioned as a potential landing spot for the former Offensive Rookie of the Year.
