College Football Playoff personnel and the City of New Orleans in conjunction with the FBI have made the decision to postponed Wednesday night's Sugar Bowl playoff game. The game will likely be rescheduled for Thursday at 3PM (1/2/25) and will air on 92.9 FM ESPN (680 AM).

Early Wednesday morning (1/1/25), a tragic incident occurred in New Orleans' French Quarter. At approximately 3:15 a.m. a white pickup truck reportedly driven by 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar from Texas plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street, resulting in at least 10 fatalities and over 30 injuries.
After crashing into the crowd, Jabbar, who was reportedly wearing body armor and armed with an assault rifle, exited the vehicle and began firing at police officers. Two officers were injured in the exchange but are in stable condition. Law enforcement returned fire, and Jabbar was pronounced deceased at the scene.
In response to the attack, the Sugar Bowl, scheduled for January 1, 2025, has been postponed for 24 hours to allow for security sweeps at the Caesars Superdome. You can hear more from our sister Audacy station WWL-New Orleans reporting on the situation.
