A good coach can have a unique impact on a child or a team -- but some coaches end up going without any recognition. The Cardinals are teaming up with Nike to present Coaches who Care. It's a way to recognize coaches for the positive impact they have on youth softball and baseball players.

Michael Hall is the Executive Director of Coaches who Care. He told KMOX that he believes people should spend more time trying to recognize coaches.

"We recognize the importance that these coaches have, not only for our program, and to get kids playing baseball, and softball, but the positive impacts that they can have on their lives," Hall said. "Coaches who care is just a way to try to recognize and celebrate that."

Hall said there are lots of things that can make a good coach, including being there for kids both on and off the field.

"Being fair, being tough, being honest, and treating all of their players with respect," he said. "And just being up front with the kids and letting them know what to expect and rewarding them for doing what is asked of them and supporting them at times where maybe they didn't get it done on the field."

People can nominate coaches until 11 p.m. on August 7 at cardinals.com/coacheswhocare. The Cardinals will host the winning coaches and their guests at Busch Stadium on September 3 when they play the Cubs.
