ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - If the St. Louis Cardinals keep doing what they're doing, Mike Shannon's retirement after his "final" broadcast could get tricky. He might be called back in for some postseason baseball.
The Cardinals are hosting the Chicago Cubs on Oct. 3, which is set to be Shannon's last regular season game in the broadcast booth – after 50 years.
"I'm looking forward to it Tom, I really am," Shannon said. "50 years is long enough, now I'll turn it over to somebody else. It's a rare thing to have been the privilege to be the Cardinals broadcaster and I'm enjoying it."
There's chance Shannon could get a few extra games, if the hottest team in baseball can carry this winning streak into a possible postseason appearance.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'll be around," Shannon says.
St. Louis is three games up on the Cincinnati Reds and 3.5 games ahead of both the San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies for the second Wild Card spot. The Cardinals have 14 games left to play.
