JUPITER, Fla. (KMOX) - Tuesday morning provided an opportunity for media and fans to witness the St. Louis Cardinals big league camp at Spring Training "up close" on the back fields at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complex.
KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman reports all five Gold Glove fielders (Goldschmidt, Edman, Arenado, O'Neill, and Bader) were on the diamond taking grounders and catching pop flies, also testing out their arms. He considers the 2022 Cardinals defense to be among the best in team history.
Ackerman noted relievers Jordan Hicks and Genesis Cabrera began throwing side sessions for the first time at camp on Tuesday.
Catcher Yadier Molina remains out of camp, due to a personal issue. Ackerman reports team officials are not alarmed. He says the shoulder soreness experienced by pitcher Alex Reyes during his camp physical does cause concern.
The Cards' first Spring Training game is Friday.
