Rumors circled the Natinoal championship game as Cleveland Brown's wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. shows his appreciation by giving players money. Initially, said to be monopoly money but was later confirmed by Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow in a podcast interview, that the money was real. The university's athletic department issued a statement saying "it was aware of video showing "apparent cash" being given to players by Beckham and that it has been in contact with the NCAA and the SEC regarding the matter."
