Atlanta Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the team’s season thus far and will the team sign Freddie Freeman to a contract extension?
When asked about the Freddie Freeman contract situation.
“I know he got asked about it in spring training and Freddie’s been here a long time, he’s great, he’s honest, he’s candid and that’s why we love him and that’s why we’ve always stated our goal is to keep him and that hasn’t changed and I don’t expect that to change,” Anthopoulos said. “You know me as a policy I just never talk about contract extensions, no one knew we were even talking to Acuna, Albies or anybody else that we’ve signed over time, even when we signed Josh Donaldson that was kept quiet, so we work hard to keep those things quiet.”
“Stating the obvious is we want to keep him, he’s made it clear that he’d love to stay here, he wants to be here, he’d love to play his entire career here. That’s the first part, the next part is being able to get a deal done, there’s obviously a lot that goes into that but our goal has not changed, our goal is to have Freddie here for a long time, well beyond 2021.”
