The Cleveland Guardians left 12 men on base Wednesday night, and the majority of those men were left on base while Michael Soroka was pitching. However, Soroka didn’t give up any runs in his 4 ⅔ innings of work.

There were numerous occasions throughout Soroka’s outing where he had runners on second and third and runners at the corners. But Soroka worked around the base traffic and always got himself out of the jam.

Soroka talked about how he did a good job of “not letting the previous pitch affect my next one” and how getting out of multiple jams last night was actually a confidence booster for him.

“You have nights like that where you seem to always be in trouble and you know I think if anything it’s a good confidence booster to know that when we’re in trouble I’m just a couple pitches away and you know when I felt like my back was against the wall that’s when everything kind of started to click a little bit," said Soroka. "I obviously lost it there for a minute but worked hard to get it back, so don’t want to put myself in those situations but it’s nice to know I can get out of them.”

Beau Morgan believes Soroka showing he can work himself out of jams was something that he needed.

“I think last night was one of the biggest things that he needed was to work himself in, but then out of jams," Beau said. “He did a really good job of not allowing those innings to get away from him, and then the rest was just coasting.”

Even though the numbers weren’t gaudy, Soroka working himself out of trouble on multiple occasions last night gave him confidence that he still has all the tools, all the pitches, and all the stuff to get back to the guy he was in 2019, and Braves fans should feel the same way.
