Blank: Falcons 'working hard' to keep Grady Jarrett

Defensive lineman Grady Jarrett is entering the final year of his contract with the Atlanta Falcons. With the Falcons in "transition" according to owner Arthur Blank, the decision whether to trade him or give him an extension is the question.

The Falcons already traded away franchise quarterback Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a third-round pick. With a team that's seemingly in a "rebuild" year--but don't call it a rebuild--is there reason the Falcons should keep Jarrett and his talents here another year?

Jarrett currently takes up $23.5 million of the Falcons cap space with a base salary of $16.5 million this season. Not only could the Falcons clear more cap space with a potential move, it would also be an opportunity to potentially gain more draft picks in a trade.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank told Dukes and Bell on 92.9 The Game that they want Jarrett back.

"We love Grady," Blank said. "He's a great leader, and Grady makes the whole team better--and not just on defense but he makes the whole locker room better. So, we're working hard on trying to make that happen."

Jarrett, who has played his entire career with the Falcons, finished the 2021 season with 59 combined tackles, 12 quarterback hits, one sack and a fumble recovery.
