The Atlanta Falcons traveled to Denver to face the Broncos over the weekend. It did not go well. The Broncos dismantled the Falcons in all three phases in a game. Atlanta only put up 6 points. It was no secret going in that the Broncos have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but the Falcons did nothing to help themselves out Sunday afternoon.

There was evidence of this early, as Bijan Robinson had a scoring run called back by a penalty in the first quarter. On the defensive side of the ball, the Falcons allowed rookie quarterback Bo Nix to have one of the best games ever started by a rookie, giving up over 300 passing yards and four touchdowns.

Luckily for the Falcons, a horrible performance still only counts as one in the loss column, and it is softened a little more by in not being a division or conference game. That’s not to say that the Falcons can afford many more of these, as both the Saints and Bucs are now within two games of first place.

Now comes the Falcons bye week, and while most of the time a team’s bye week doesn’t come with great timing, it sure does for the 2024 Falcons.

After the bye week, the Falcons welcome in the red-hot Los Angeles Chargers, who just took Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals into a shootout over the weekend that ultimately ended up in a 34-27 Chargers victory. The Falcons will surely take this much-needed bye week to reassess, and get back to winning ways, but a 38-6 loss before-hand will certainly make it a lot less enjoyable.

Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael dive a little deeper in to the Falcons Sunday loss, and what they need to do over the bye to get back on track.
