Rookie quarterbacks and young quarterbacks make mistakes, it’s a part of them learning the game. It’s easy to highlight Desmond Ridder throwing two interceptions in the first half of the Jaguars game, or having three fumbles against the Buccaneers, but what some people don’t understand is that those two interceptions against Jacksonville were different mistakes, and those three fumbles against the Buccaneers were all different mistakes.
Another thing that some people don’t understand or highlight is how Desmond responded to throwing two first half interceptions or those three fumbles. All Ridder did after throwing two first half interceptions against the Jaguars in London is lead the team down the field for a touchdown straight out of halftime.
After losing three fumbles in the redzone all Desmond did was throw Kyle Pitts a perfect pass that set up a game winning field goal against a division opponent, and that win put the Falcons in first place in the division.
Ridder is going to make mistakes, he is only 11 starts into his career, and he is still learning the game. How Desmond responds to those mistakes, and if he makes the same mistakes twice is important. Desmond so far hasn’t made the same mistake twice, and his moxy and mental toughness have allowed him not only to handle criticism, but to also keep improving and keep helping his team win games.
