While the Atlanta Falcons have still made a few more free agency signings recently, it appears that the team is gearing up for the 2023 draft as signings that moved the needle took place early on with the likes of safety Jessie Bates and defensive tackle David Onyemata.
Now, with the eighth overall pick in the upcoming draft, the Falcons seem to be shifting all focus on who’s name they will call on April 27 despite still having just over $20 million available to spend in free agency.
So who will they take?
Well depending on who you ask, the Falcons should take an edge rusher, while others believe that if quarterbacks Bryce Young or CJ Stroud somehow were still available by the time Atlanta is on the clock, regardless of if Desmond Ridder is named the starter, Atlanta should take one of them. Then there is still the issue of improving the offensive line for some, while others believe a cornerback opposite of AJ Terrell would be the best selection with the eighth pick.
But what if the Falcons are thinking of going in an unexpected direction?
“Do you think there’s a wildcard position the Falcons are looking at in the draft?” That was the question 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery asked Atlanta Falcons reporter, Tori McElhaney, who joined him on Monday night as the two discussed what Atlanta could possibly do with the No. 8 overall pick.
“Just because of the way this draft is set up and the way that these players are set up, I think if it was going to be a wildcard situation, I don’t think they would do it at eight,” McElhaney responded, adding that if the Falcons were to make a “head-scratching” pick, they would possibly “trade down” to do so.
