“When I look at him physically and see the attributes he brings, he reminds me of 59 that used to play in Carolina,” Beau Morgan said when he was talking about Troy Andersen looking good in the Atlanta Falcons joint practice with the Miami Dolphins.

Andersen picked off Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and that had Mike Johnson fired up Wednesday morning.

“When I read this about him settling in the middle of this defense and able to pick Tua [Tagovailoa] off in practice yesterday was that’s a glimpse to me, that’s a small glimpse of what you could see as far as a savvy linebacker goes in pass coverage, and so he’s not just a run thumper, like hopefully he can create some turnovers this season,” Johnson said

Coming into his second season Andersen still has a lot to prove, and nobody is guaranteeing he is going to be the next Luke Kuechly. But during his playing days, Kuechly was 6-foot-3, 235-240 pounds and Andersen is 6-foot-4, 235, so not only do they have the same physical attributes, but now Andersen is starting to show he has the same skills and wit as Kuechly did too. Beau believes Andersen will play a similar role in the Falcons defense that Kuechly did in the Panthers defense when he was playing.

As Mike said, the flashes Andersen had last season, and the glimpses he’s shown so far in training camp, Falcons fans can’t help but think they might have their own version of Luke Kuechly in Atlanta, and it seems like Troy Andersen definitely has that potential.
