Why trading back in NFL draft isn't worth the risk for Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons find themselves in a good position in the upcoming NFL Draft. Should they consider trading back to maximize their bites at the apple or stand pat and make their selection at number 8?

The Atlanta Falcons are in a pretty good spot after making a flurry of free agency moves earlier this offseason. Now that they are no longer in the quarterback market, could they make a move back in the draft to acquire more assets?

Our "AC-DC" show with Chris Thomas, Abe Gordon, and Drew Butler are divided on the matter.

"This is what I'd like them to do," Thomas said. "And that is, Drew, just take the guy at eight -- and that's it. Don't overthink it and don't worry about it. You're not making trades and risking losing people."

Chris went on to emphatically plead for the Falcons to utilize the "K.I.S.S" method: "Keep it simple, stupid!"

Drew Butler agreed, "Control things that you can control! If you take the risk and moving back or trading out of that eighth pick, anything can happen. It's one of the exciting things about the draft because nobody can predict the moves that teams will make to move up or move back."

With teams potentially jockeying for positioning in the top five, the Falcons have the opportunty

Abe just sees it a little bit differently than his co-hosts.

"If a team like the Vikings are intent on taking a quarterback and someone slips to eight," Abe started. "They have pick number 11, they have pick number 23. You trade eight for picks 11 and 23. Keep your second round pick. Teams go crazy for quarterbacks, [especially] if that's their guy and they're desperate!"
