Now that the NBA Draft has come to an end, teams await the new league year to officially begin on July 6th, and for the Atlanta Hawks, that will mean their new look roster with the additions of Kristaps Porzingis, who they acquired via trade, and Asa Newell, who they drafted with the 23rd overall pick on Wednesday night, will start preparing for the 2025-2026 season.

“I’m excited about the future and I think it’s only going to get better over the next few weeks,” Hawks CEO, Steve Koonin, said on Friday as he joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell and shared thoughts on how well the past week has gone for the Hawks.

“I think Onsi (Saleh) and his team delivered on exactly what we were looking for,” Koonin continued as he praised Atlanta’s general manager and his staff for their efforts in acquiring Porzingis and making the draft night trade which led to selecting Newell as well as getting a 2026 unprotected first round pick.

“I think the buzz of the draft has everybody talking about this deal we made with New Orleans that could potentially be something really, really special next season,” Koonin added in regards to the Hawks working towards being a team who contends in the Eastern Conference.
