Trae Young took to social media Thursday with a tongue-in-cheek apology to his fans after being snubbed, yet again, for this year's All-Star game.
"... it’s no longer getting “snubbed” it’s getting “Traed” at this point😂," the Atlanta Hawks point guard said on X. "Sorry to my fans.. it’ll change eventually! All right, talk soon!"
Young leads the NBA with 11.4 assists per game and has poured in 22.7 points for the Hawks, which just wasn't enough for All-Star voters. And the All-Star snubbing isn't a new thing. He is a three-time All-Star selection, but not this year or in 2023 or 2021. Even though he was on the 2024 All-Star team, he was snubbed before eventially being added as an injury replacement.
The team has fallen off in the standings and has come far short of expectations, but Young's numbers in each of those seasons where he was left off the team caused head scratching.
Young has failed to consistently capture votes in necessary categories to make it back onto the roster. The format goes as 50% fan voting, 25% media voting and 25% player voting. Young has failed to capture the votes from the media and players but has been able to place highly amongst the fans. It remains to be seen how much the team's lack of success has played into Young not being recognized.
Young clearly is not viewed in the same light as other guards in the conference despite his gaudy assist numbers and ability to score with the best of the league on any given night. The team will need to get back to winning ways for him to get the help he needs to make the roster once again.
