On Friday, 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery spoke with Daniel Flick, of Fan Nation about the Atlanta Falcons, as they prepare to open training camp next. As their conversation began, Chuckery opened up first wanting to focus on quarterback Desmond Ridder and what his level of play needs to be in order for the Falcons to have a successful season with him under center.
Referencing a conversation that Dukes and Bell had earlier in the day with Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated, in which he told the afternoon duo that Ridder “just has to be a point guard for the Falcons,” Chuckery told Flick that he agreed with Verderame’s statement and if the second year quarterback “is at least that, then I think we can still win a lot of games the way our offense is set up to be this year,” the evening host said.
In his response, Flick also echoed both Verderame and Chuckery’s sentiments and noted that with the likes of Bijan Robinson, Cordarrelle Patterson, Tyler Algeier, Drake London and Kyle Pitts, “there’s enough talent to where Ridder won’t have to play hero ball,” Flick told Chuckery. The SI Falcons report added that with the addition of Robinson, the Falcons, who finished third in rushing last season, he expects that they should improve in that area and with a run game being the “heart and soul” of the offense, ultimately, “Ridder can just play average ball and I think 10, 11 is still firmly in play,” Flick said.
