CFB Gametime Podcast: SEC Week 3 Recap + UGA/Bama Preview

Welcome to the College Football Gametime Podcast. This week our buddy Nick Kayal joined me to talk a little SEC football. Check out Nick as the co-host of Athlon’s Cover-2 podcast. It’s a great listen. Make sure you catch Nick on 92-9 The Game on the weekends after College Football Gametime.

The Corona Virus appears to have a firm grip on college football this weekend and the SEC in particular.  Not long after our taping this week, word came out that Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban and Athletic Director Greg Byrne have test positive.  Saban told reporters he plans to work from home.  A report by ESPN.com quoted Saban’s daughter that her dad was literally coaching practice on a zoom call.  CDC guidelines says that those with a positive test must isolate for 10 days, contact tracing requires a 14-day quarantine.  Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is overseeing preparation for Alabama’s top five showdown with Georgia.  No word on what Alabama’s sidelines may look like on Saturday.  If there is anyone that could coach a game from home…on zoom…it’s gotta be Nick Saban.

Two games in the conference have been postponed this week.  Florida reported five new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday.  The SEC announced their home game vs. LSU has been postponed.  Missouri’s home game against Vandy has also been postponed.  In the top 25, number 7 Oklahoma State had their Big 12 game against Baylor postponed.  It’s the third game in five weeks for Baylor that has been delayed.

A few notes from this week’s podcast.  Nick and I discussed the offensive output in the SEC this past weekend.  The league averaged a combined 68 points in seven conference games Saturday.  Alabama and Ole Miss combined for 111 points in their shootout. The Crimson Tide had 11-drives and scored 9 touchdowns. LSU and Missouri combined for 86 points, while Texas A&M and Florida combined to score 79. Nobody can tackle right now in college football.  Get used to it.  It’s here to stay, at least for this year.

College Football Gametime, Saturday morning 9-noon on 92-9 The Game with Jon Chuckery, Randy McMichael and myself.
