The Georgia Bulldogs found their way back into the win column on Saturday. And it appears they have found themselves a quarterback in J.T. Daniels, who made his first start for the Dawgs.
Daniels was impressive in his debut going 28-of-38 passing for 401 yards with four touchdown. It has made a lof of people question head coach Kirby Smart in 'why not start him sooner?'
To Andy Bunker of the Midday Show, the fustration goes beyond the quarterback position and the questions on why Daniels hadn't been the starter until now. It has to do with the other side of the ball and talent.
"This defense was supposed to be an elite, like win you football games type of defense," Andy said.
Mississippi State doesn't have a great offense, yet the Bulldogs found a way to extend drives and put up 24-points against Georgia.
"We're talking about a defense that's populated by all these huge recruits. And that's the thing the everybody leans on whenever they defend Kirby."
"I do think it's lazy to continue to compare records of the previous coach to the current coach. I also don't think it's an insult because Mark Richt got off to a reall good start in his first five years at Georgia. Obviously he's not there because he couldn't win the big one."
"But if you're defense for that is 'well look at all the talent (Kirby's) bringing in;' if that talent isn't reaching national championship games and winning SEC Championships, it doesn't matter. I don't care how much talent you have. I want to see you use that talent when it gets on campus, and that's the frustrating thing to me...especially on the defensive side of the ball; watching them look the way that they looked on Saturday night, that's hard to explain."
