After a season of struggles in the wide receiver room in 2024, the Georgia Bulldogs were aggressive in bringing reinforcements. Six newcomers at wide receiver were added this offseason, and the entire room was on display during Saturday's annual spring game in Athens.
The Steakhouse welcomed Rusty Mansell to discuss what he learned from the G-Day spring game on Saturday, but specifically from these pass-catchers.
"As the game went on, you see Zachariah Branch catch a ball with a defender all over him and you see a freshman in CJ Wiley out of Milton, they throw him a back-shoulder ball and he catches it with one hand on the sideline," Mansell said. "Then you see Colbie Young, and that guy is different. There are a lot of players down there, but if I'm facing Georgia then that's the guy who gives me worries."
Ironically, two returning playmakers led the Bulldogs in receiving on Saturday. Dillon Bell had five catches for 78 yards while London Humphreys added four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Newcomers Branch and Wiley each turned in strong performances and had big moments of their own.
Overall, Rusty is extremely excited after what he saw on the field.
"The football nerd in me says that these guys catching balls with the defenders all over them is what you didn't see last year at all for Georgia," Mansell finished. "You saw all of that on Saturday."
