During SEC Media Days Wednesday Alabama junior offensive lineman JC Latham was asked if Georgia is the “new standard” of college football, and this was his answer.
“I respect the fact they won back-to-back national championships," said Latham. "I know that is not easy, but at the same time, their standard is not above our standard.”
On Thursday The Morning Shift gave their reactions to Latham’s comment. And while they all agree that the junior offensive lineman didn’t say anything wrong Tiffany Blackmon and Mike Johnson think he could’ve said it a different way.
“No. 1, I don’t blame him for believing that and that being his response," said Johnson. "But I’m also on Tiffany’s side where there was probably a different way of going about it.”
Tiffany also basically said that Latham should’ve answered the question differently, but Beau Morgan didn’t find anything wrong with JC’s words.
“I got no problem with that," Morgan said. "What is he supposed to say? 'Yeah, they’re better than us standard wise.' I mean look, this is one of those issues where you’re darned if you do you’re darned if you don’t.”
Two things can be true, did Latham really say anything wrong? No. However, he should’ve answered the question differently, so that nobody would have anything to talk about or clip, quote or turn into bulletin board material.
Two things are for now certain, Kirby Smart has definitely heard and seen this, and even though Coach Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs don’t need any extra motivation, Smart will use it whenever he gets it, and this will be used.
