The SEC is the best conference in football because of the amount of quality teams they have, but like any conference it has its superior teams and its bottom feeders, but with NIL and players now being able to get paid directly from schools that gap has been shortened a little bit.
Talent is more spread out across the SEC and all of college football for that matter, and earlier today longtime college football writer Tony Barnhart joined The Morning Shift, and talked about how there are no great teams in the SEC currently because of it.
“Last year in the SEC there were a lot of really good teams in the league, but in my mind there were no great teams. There was no Ohio State, there was no Michigan from the year before, and so yeah this is the new normal because the talent is gonna be spread around, and this year is gonna be the same. The main thing is that the talent is spread around and it's gonna be fun to watch. I don’t see any great teams in the SEC. I see a lot of really good teams. I see several teams capable of winning the national championship.”
We saw a little bit of it last year, and will see even more of it this year and for years to come in college football, NIL and schools being able to pay players directly will cause a lot more parody in the sport. Now, while the sport may be spoiled for some college football purists because of NIL and pay for play, people who have and will get past that will enjoy what is becoming a much more level playing field.
