Georgia enters the 2022 college football season as the defending champion and in prime position to return to the CFB Playoff thanks in large part to a position group that is likely to be the best in the country.
Asked about the three-headed monster that makes up the Georgia tight end room in Brock Bowers, Darnell Washington, and newcomer Arik Gilbert, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz—from the podium at SEC Media Days in Atlanta—couldn’t help but acknowledge the lofty potential for the group of pass catchers in Athens.
“They can probably win a national championship. I mean, I don't know. I don't know what those guys are. I've seen them on tape.
They're really good. They got a great quarterback who can distribute the ball. They have a long offensive line. They run the ball. Coach Monken does an excellent job getting them into the right schemes, the right plays. Probably the perfect play-caller for that group of guys.
Without knowing more than that, I'd say the ceiling is they need to win a national championship," Drinkwitz said.
Despite a historic departure of talent with 15 selections in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Bulldogs return plenty of key pieces on both sides of the ball including QB Stetson Bennett, the trio of tight ends, linebacker Nolan Smith, and DT Jalen Carter among others.
Bulldog head coach Kirby Smart will step to the podium Wednesday at the College Football Hall of Fame alongside Bennett, Smith and OL Sedrick Van Pran.
