Jason Butt, who covers the Georgia Bulldogs for UGASports.com, joined the Midday Show to talk about the quarterback drama that continues another week.
The Bulldogs match-up at Missouri on Saturday was postponed due to Covid-19 related issues within the Tigers program. That means the 'who will start at quarterback' question will go on another week.
Stetson Bennett claimed the quarterback spot after Week 1 but suffered an injury in the Florida loss and was replaced by D'Wan Mathis. Bennett was also unable to throw at practice this week.
If the game wasn't canceled this weekend, who would have been the starting quarterback? Jason said he believes it would've been J.T. Daniels.
But is Daniels the best-case scenario, comes in and plays well and gives Georgia momentum, or some carry-over, into next season?
"If J.T. Daniels comes in and plays well, even if it is against lesser competition, it's going to be 'well, why isn't this guy starting?'" Butt told Andy and Randy. "I think that's going to be more of a prevailing thought."
"At the end of the day, I mean, yeah they would love to have a guy like J.T. Daniels, or anyone with experience, to start next year and let Brock Vandagriff come along. But with what we know, I think they've got to give Brock Vandagriff every possibility to win that job next year."
Georgia has gone all-in on Todd Monken's offense which is a non-run first approach, which you can see in their games against Alabama and Florida.
"If they're all-in on that approach, you might as well get Brock Vandagriff, the future of the program, a head start next year and not worry about merging the gap (with J.T. Daniels)."
