UGA beat writer Seth Emerson joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the team’s win over Kentucky, the latest on Richard LeCounte, and what is really going on with the quarterback position at UGA?
Emerson talked about why Kirby Smart has stuck with Stetson Bennett.
“I think the decision here to stick with Bennett is explainable," said Emerson. "I’m just not sure he’s explained it well. I think part of that reason may be that he doesn’t want to say out loud, and this is just conjecture on my part. I haven’t talked off the record with him about it, but just my own sense of it that Bennett is the best choice right now. Not necessarily because of what Stetson can do, but J.T. Daniels for whatever reason, whether it’s health or getting to know the offense or whatever, isn’t better right now or isn’t a better option. And with Dwan Mathis we saw what happened when he went out there.
“Stetson Bennett was good enough to win three games for you, he was good enough by the way to have them winning at Alabama with five minutes left in the third quarter. Do you say we’re abandoning that and going for higher upside but also higher risk with younger guys and more inexperienced guys in J.T. Daniels and Dwan Mathis.”
