With the Falcons being in the national headlines a lot recently, and the hype around how good a season they may have continues to increase, while not necessarily getting the nation's attention, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are quietly gaining some traction, especially if you take anything away from Vegas, as the point spread that favored Florida State has dropped from -13.5 to -10.5.
“Georgia Tech beats Florida State. They beat Florida State because they have the better quarterback and I don’t trust DJ U,” steak Shapiro said on Thursday as he explained to Sandra Golden why he believes the Yellow Jackets have a chance to end up a top-20 ranked team this season.
As Shapiro continued to briefly preview the first six games of Georgia Tech’s schedule, with the likes of Georgia State, Syracuse, VMI, and Duke in that mix, he told Golden that he believes Coach Brent Key’s team may be 6-0.
“In the spectrum of their schedule, this is the easy part of their schedule,” Shapiro said as he asked Golden to weigh in on the Yellow Jackets being ranked in the top 20 if they go unbeaten through their first six games.
“They’re definitely top 20 if they beat Florida State. They could be top 15, top 10 at 6-0 depending what happens around them,” the midday host added. Shapiro stated while he believes the “back half” of the Yellow Jackets schedule will see them facing tougher opponents, a solid start to the season could create even more buzz around the Jackets.
“My point is the back end of the schedule is going to be a beast," Shapiro said. "But if they bet Florida State, the next five games they’ll be favored consistently, and the buzz will be nationally. Look at what Brent Key has going on."
