While the City of Atlanta is not too far removed from one of its professional franchises winning a championship, the want for more is deserving as the Braves 2021 World Series win was the last title captured by an Atlanta team since United’s 2018 MLS Cup and preceded by the Braves’ 1995 World Series win.

Now while, the Hawks and Falcons have yet to win their first title, the Falcons are able to hang their hat on two Super Bowl appearances (1998 and 2017) while the Hawks reached the Eastern Conference Finals just four times since moving to Atlanta in the 1968, 1969, 2014 and 2020 seasons, fans have yet to see either accomplish the feat of ending the season as the best.

On Tuesday, as they reflected on the history of Atlanta teams and compared them to where they are now as a franchise in comparison to the top teams in their respective leagues, Steak Shapiro and Sandra Golden shared their thoughts on how close they believe the Braves, Falcons and Hawks are from winning a championship.

“The Braves aren’t far,” Shapiro said as he and Golden discussed the roster of the Braves while in the midst of announcements on options for several players. “The five or six teams in baseball, we’re one of them right,” Shapiro continued as he explained the history of great players for the Braves including current players such as Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, and Spencer Strider make them one of MLB’s top teams. “We’re a sexy brand for sure,” Golden added.

As their conversation shifted to the Falcons, Shapiro stated he believes the franchise appears to be getting over the hump of down seasons and trending up into title contention. “That time has come. We’re 6-3, if you look around at our personnel, certainly on the offensive side of the ball, you’d say few teams in football have a better roster,” Shapiro said as he shared with Golden his thoughts on the Falcons to this point in the season. “There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll be hosting a home playoff game,” he said.

As Shapiro zeroed in on the Hawks, who’s only championship came while they were still located in St. Louis, the midday host explained that after having the opportunity to watch them play against the Celtics on Monday, he believes they are the one Atlanta team, furthest away from winning a title.

“I’m just worried the Hawks are floating in this no man’s land,” Shapiro told Golden who was in agreeance with her co-host. “Because they are,” she added as they discussed the Hawks, who are notably dealing with injuries to several key players.
