The build up to Saturday’s showdown between the Georgia Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels has been one the most talked about in college football this week as the Dawgs will host a top 25 ranked opponent for the second consecutive week and more importantly, a win for Georgia will lock up the SEC East and send them to the SEC title game for the third consecutive season and their sixth appearance in the conference championship since 2017.
And while the Rebels would need a few other unlikely chips to fall to help them reach the SEC title game, a win on Saturday would keep them in the hunt for a potential trip to Mercedes-Benz Stadium as SEC West champs. So with momentum on their side having won five in a row and some believing that the Rebels offense being Georgia’s biggest test defensively, Ole Miss should be riding into Athens on a good note, at least until recent audio has surfaced of head coach, Lane Kiffin, dismissing defensive tackle, DeSanto Rollins from the team.
In the audio, Kiffin can be heard using explicative words as he and DeSanto seemed to be in a tense conversation surrounding the defensive lineman’s unexcused absence from the team, which has been reportedly due to mental health issues, and his lack of communication behind his time away. On Friday, Steak Shapiro and Sandra Golden shared their thoughts after hearing the audio and briefly debated whether Kiffin handled Desanto in the proper manner.
“They don’t throw kids off of teams for mental health, no freaking way are they doing that,” Shapiro said has he explained to Golden that he believes how DeSanto appears to handle the situation paints a bad light on him and he did not take issue with how the Rebels head coach can be heard in the audio. However, while agreeing that DeSanto may not be taking the proper approach to addressing the matter with Kiffin, she does not believe the way Kiffin is heard on tape was the best way to deal with DeSanto.
“I agree with you that the behavior’s unacceptable and you went missing in action, however if you already know that this kid is fragile and he has told you he is not great mentally, he’s on the struggle bus and he comes into your office. That level of anger and tone and name calling…there’s a different way to handle it,” golden responded to Shapiro. She would expound by stating that she believes Kiffin could have expressed his concerns with DeSanto in a calmer manner. Shapiro and Golden then allow listeners to call to share their thoughts.
