New Steeler Chris Wormley Shocked But Excited To Come To Pittsburgh

Chris Wormley
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- His favorite player growing up was Troy Polamalu.

He wore #43 through his college years at Michigan because of him.

He grew up a Steelers fan in Toledo, Ohio.

Now, he's a Pittsburgh Steeler himself. Enough said, right?

Defensive lineman Chris Wormley was involved in a rare intra-division trade going from the Baltimore Ravens to the Pittsburgh Steelers and, by no surprise, he was surprised by it.

"I was definitely a little shocked. [Eric] DeCosta, the Ravens' GM, called me and said, 'Hey Chris, we traded you for a 5th round pick and a 7th round pick and you're headed to Pittsburgh,' and I'm like, 'huh'? It was kind of a shock. Obviously them being in the division with each other they're rivals, there's been a lot of heated battles of the last 25 years with the teams so I'm excited to see that from the Steelers perspective.

But yeah, being with the Ravens the first three years and then for my fourth year being with the Steelers is going to be a little but of, I wouldn't say a challenge, but it's going to be definitely different."

Wormley said that it's not just talk, the crowd and atmosphere at Heinz Field is intimidating on the other side.

"I've played I think twice, Sunday Night games there and it's been an unbelievable atmosphere. Riding into the stadium, everyone's tailgating, everyone's excited because it's usually a nationally televised game. The fans are ready, the fans are riled up.

It's definitely an opposing place, especially when they play Renegade and the Terrible Towels are going in the stands, you know there's 70,000 of those waving around. It's definitely intense. So, I'm excited to be on the other side of that, for sure."

Wormley said that he feels most comfortable and thinks he fits best in a 3-4 defense, but he also knows the score in the National Football League.

"Everyone knows you get paid rushing the passer and sacking the quarterback so obviously I can do that, too. [It] will be exciting to see what the Steelers have planned up for the defense, can't wait to see what that playbook looks like."

You can hear the entire interview with Chris Wormley, including more about the trade and his relationships with Devin Bush and Pittsburgh natives Chase Winovich and Khaleke Hudson, from The Fan Morning Show below.
