PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - NHL Insider Pierre McGuire regularly joins The PM Team and came on this week to talk about the Pens offseason so far. You can count Pierre among those that like what they've done so far.
On signing forward Brandon Tanev from the Winnipeg Jets: "I think Pittsburgh Penguins fans will be pleasantly surprised by Brandon Tanev."
So what does Pierre make of the analytic people that are ripping the signing?
"Give me a break. I wonder if these people have even watched Brandon Tanev play."
This was our first chance to catch up with Pierre since the Pens traded Phil Kessel to the Coyotes for Alex Galchenyuk and he was bullish on that move as well.
"It was solid," Pierre said. "If he's coached properly and given the right role and slotted properly, he can play center, he can play wing, he's a highly creative offensive player. I think the biggest thing is he got rushed into the NHL by the Montreal Canadiens...and I don't think he was handled properly from the time he turned pro as a young player to where he is now."
