Penguins Add 3 Forwards, 1 Defensive Player During Day Two Of NHL Draft

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) -- After drafting Samuel Poulin in the first-round of the 2019 NHL Draft on Friday, the Pittsburgh Penguins drafted four new players on Saturday.

The Penguins moved up to select forward Nathan Legare with the 74th-overall pick during the second round. The Pens traded the 98th, 151st, and 207th-overall picks to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for the earlier selection.

The 18-year-old Montreal, Quebec native had an explosive second season with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL in 2018-19. At 6-foot, 206-pounds, Lagare ranked second and eighth in the QMJHL in goals (45) and points (87). He played for Team Canada alongside Poulin at the 2019 Under-18 World Championship, finishing third on the team with four goals in seven games.

The Penguins selected forward Judd Caulfield in round 5 of the draft. Caulfield has played for the United States National Team Development Program for two years, recording 26 goals, 48 assists, 74 points over 123 career games. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound, Grand Forks, ND native played in seven games during the 2019 Under-18 World Championship, winning bronze. He is committed to the University of North Dakota in 2019-20.

With the 203rd-overall pick, the Pens selected forward Valtteri Puustinen. Puustinen played the majority of the 2018-19 season with HPK of Liiga, Finland's top professional league. The 5-foot-9, 183-pound Puustinen recorded 13 points (10G-3A) in 47 games and 5 points (2G-3A) in 16 playoff games this season with the club win Liiga's championship.

The Pens acquired their last selection from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the 2020 seventh-round pick. With the move, the Pens selected defenseman Santeri Airola with the 211th-overall pick. The 5-foot-11, 163-pound Imatra, Finland native played the majority of the season on SaiPa's Under-20 team of Jr. A SM-Liiga. He led all defensemen on his team and ranked 5th among all SaiPa U-20 skaters with 31 points (4G-27A) in 41 games.
