Keefe, Fitzy & Hart react to Patriots' schedule release
After retiring from playing football in the NFL, Tom Brady seemed to exit the news cycle for a bit. But as he’s known to do, Brady has made quite the comeback this week, first with the announcement of the tribute he’ll be receiving in Foxboro during the Patriots’ home opener on Sept. 10…and now with news he might soon be a part owner of another football team.
According to Adam Schefter and Seth Wickersham at ESPN, Brady is in discussions with Raiders owner Mark Davis to become a “limited partner” of the Las Vegas Raiders. The two already are in business together as Brady is a part owner of the area’s WNBA franchise, the Las Vegas Aces. Discussions have been ongoing for a while, with no set date to finalize a deal in place. This marks the second time Brady has tried to get involved in ownership of an NFL franchise as there were rumors of him getting a piece of the Miami Dolphins franchise in recent years. Those discussions with him and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and others eventually led to tampering charges against Miami and a loss of a first-round draft pick.
Plus, Brady still has his 10-year, $375 million NFL on FOX analyst gig set to begin in 2024, and according to ESPN, FOX has signed off on Brady’s potential limited stake in the Raiders, though it would seem a conflict of interest to many.
This news will likely land curiously with locals as the multi-part tribute the Patriots are planning for him was announced Thursday morning by Pats owner Robert Kraft on “Good Morning Football.” The Raiders, who are coached by former Pats offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, feature a number of former Pats and seem to be trying to set up Foxboro West in Vegas. This could take things to a whole new level. Not to mention the jokes about Brady, the Raiders and the Tuck Rule game from Jan. 2002, which set his career and the Pats dynasty into motion.
Wonder how Jimmy Garoppolo will feel about looking up to Brady once again, too.
For the record, the Patriots play the Raiders Week 6 on the 2023 schedule. The game was already going to be interesting, with the Jakobi Meyers “revenge game,” Belichick vs. McDaniels Part 3, and how last year’s game ended (we won’t go there again). Now the Pats could be trying to beat a team that Brady is a part owner of as well?
At least the news isn’t Brady coming out of retirement to play for the Raiders, although at this point nothing would surprise us in the life of Brady and the modern NFL.
