ST. LOUIS (KMOX/AP) - On Aug. 9 the St. Louis Cardinals had a less than 1% of making the postseason, according to Fangraphs. Even in early September the team's chances were only 4.7%. But Adam Wainwright, Tyler O'Neill, Paul Goldschmidt and other breakout performances pushed this team into the playoffs.
A 6-2 win against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday clinched St. Louis' spot in the NL Wild Card game. It was also a 17th win in a row, adding to the franchise record.
After the game, KMOX's Mike Claiborne was on the field during the celebrations and caught up with some Cardinals players, coaches and front office staff. You can hear some of those below:
St. Louis was 71-69 on Sept. 11 before the winning streak, the longest in team history and the longest in the major leagues since Cleveland took 22 in a row in 2017.
St. Louis will either face the San Francisco Giants or Los Angeles Dodgers as the away team on Oct. 6.
Adam Wainwright (17-7) allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings, throwing 102 pitches and stranding seven runners.
