PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Well, if you were having any concerns or doubts as a Steelers fan about facing the Houston Texans this week, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle did a pretty good job of easing your worries.
Wilson joined The Fan Morning Show yesterday and had plenty of ammo as to why he thinks the Texans won’t win this game on Sunday. This is all in one answer, but just about sums it all up. Check this out…
“To beat the Steelers, what I think they’d have to do are things that I don’t think they can do which would be pound the football with David Johnson, move those chains, maybe hit a big play after they respect your play action and methodically move the football. They would need some short fields, they would have to create turnovers and that’s an even bigger problem.
They haven’t created a turnover yet and they’re a team that, there’s some flashes of the pass rush with JJ Watt but they’re getting nothing from their outside linebackers. Whitney Mercilus has been completely silent the whole season after signing a $54 million contract. They also in the secondary have a lot of issues and they have some injuries.
I don’t know, they’re a team that you can go through them and say, ‘This is pretty good, but no, this is really bad.’ I mean, they couldn’t tackle in the opener. They missed 20 tackles in the first game. They’ve got a lot of problems.
I don’t know how they can beat the Steelers. I don’t think all of the sudden you’re going to think they’re going to be able to block TJ Watt and Bud Dupree and all the other good football players they have up front.
The Steelers blitz 57% of the time and have a great pressure rate. The Texans, I mean, Deshaun [Watson] has already been sacked 8 times, hit 20 times, 27 pressures.
I think the offensive line has regressed. The right side in particular is really bad with Titus Howard and Zach Fulton. I don’t know how you can do it. I mean you can max protect. These tight ends are actually bad blockers, Darren Fells and Jordan Akins. Darren led the NFL last year in missed blocks for tight ends.
You saw the opener, probably. You saw Tyrann Mathieu throw Darren on the ground and then hit Deshaun Watson. I mean, it could get ugly.”
Other than that, Houston has a chance!
