It appears Mac Jones avoided serious injury. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday afternoon that the Patriots quarterback is "believed to have been suffering from back spasms" Sunday and that "there is a chance" Jones plays Week 2 against Pittsburgh.

Jones did not miss any snaps during the loss to the Dolphins, but did undergo X-rays after the game, which came back negative. He didn't meet with reporters after the game, but is scheduled to hold his regular Monday afternoon press conference and make his weekly appearance on WEEI's Merloni, Fauria & Mego.

ESPN's Mike Reiss reported Monday afternoon that Jones felt "notably better" Sunday night and Monday morning compared to immediately after the game. Adam Schefter adds that scans on Jones' back came back "normal" and that his injury is "not thought to be serious."

It's obviously good news for the Patriots that Jones shouldn't miss any extended period of time, but it's worth noting that he hasn't been cleared to play this Sunday just yet either. Schefter reports that the team will "monitor and gauge" how Jones is feeling throughout the week.

Jones finished Sunday's game with 213 yards through the air on 21-of-30 passing. He threw a touchdown pass to Ty Montgomery, but also committed two turnovers on an interception and fumble.
