PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pitt basketball officially signing a pair of players for next year before they play their second game of the season Friday night.
One is a legacy of sorts, Brandin Cummings, a four-star guard from Lincoln Park High School. His brother Nelly helped the Panthers return to the NCAA Tournament last season, his only year with the team. Brandin averaged 23.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists his junior season with 75 made three-point field goals as his team won the state 4A title. He likely will eclipse 2,000 career points and over 200 career made threes this season.
"Brandin is a dynamic guard who can really put the ball in the basket," said Pitt head coach Jeff Capel in a statement released by the school. "We have been able to develop a great relationship with him and his family and look forward to watching him continue to develop here at Pitt. He has been a part of an outstanding high school program and will bring a winning pedigree with him. Brandin's style of play is a little different than his brother Nelly's, but they are both extremely skilled with great intangibles and a tireless work ethic."
The other player is Amdy Ndiaye who is playing a prep year this season at the Putnam Science Academy. He's a 6'10", 215-pound forward who is versatile and Pitt believes under-the-radar as a player who can impact a game defensively and also shot 35% from three last season.
"Amdy is a versatile inside-out player whose recruitment really took off over the past year," said Capel via the school's release. "He fits our system extremely well with his ability to guard multiple positions on the floor as well as be an efficient offensive weapon out of the pick and roll or pick and pop. He plays with great energy and is another guy who always wants to be in the gym."
Panthers can return 10 players from this year's roster for next season with only Blake Hinson and Michael Hueitt out of eligibility.
