Pitt basketball knew that it would be hit hard by graduation following its run to the NCAA Tournament this season. But now, a player with eligibility remaining may take the next step in his career, as well.

Junior forward Blake Hinson will test the 2023 NBA Draft process while retaining his eligibility, with the possibility of returning to Pitt next season.

Hinson was a Second-Team All-ACC pick this year, scoring 15.3 points per game. He hit 97 three-pointers and grabbed 6 rebounds per game, as well.

The 6-foot-7 Hinson was named the CollegeInsider.com Riley Wallace Award winner as the nation’s most impactful transfer after joining the Panthers before the season.

Jeff Capel’s team is already tasked with replacing much of its scoring from the 2022-23 season, with guards Jamarius Burton, Nelly Cummings, Nike Sibande and Greg Elliot — who accounted for around 45 points per game — all departing.

Pitt does, however, have three recent top 100 recruits who are scheduled to make their debuts this season, and have added a pair of transfers in Rhode Island guard Ishmael Leggett and High point forward Zack Austin.

Hinson has until May 31 to remove his name from the NBA Draft process and return to college basketball.
