Report: Penguins to start season in Tampa Bay

According to reports, the Pittsburgh Penguins will open the season the 2021-22 season against the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

According to the Post-Gazette's Mike Defabo the Pens will watch the Lightning raise their second consecutive banner on October 12.


The Lightning joined the Penguins as the only teams to win back-to-back Stanley Cups in the free agent area.

The Penguins were bounced from the playoffs once again in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, this time by the New York Islanders.

The Lightning won their second Stanley Cup after defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 in the Final.

The Penguins won their back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017.

Defebo also reports the Penguins will open up their open schedule against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 16.
