PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pens welcomed back a bit of a lightning rod player on a one-year, two-way contract worth $750,000, Pittsburgh Hockey Now and others.

Forward Dominik Simon drew a ton of attention for a winger who had 64 points in 173 career NHL games before leaving for a season in Calgary.  Simon played anywhere from the top line with Sidney Crosby to the fourth line during his five years in Pittsburgh

The 5’11” forward had a career-high 8 goals and 20 assists in 2018-19 with the Pens, but followed it up with 22 points the following season and was a career-worst minus 9.  This past season Simon played in only 11 games with the Flames, averaging 9:36 of ice time with no points and only four shots on goal.

The Czech Republic native was the Pens fifth round pick in 2015.

Simon is the second free agent signing on Wednesday and second signing of a forward under 6’ tall which is curious for a team stating they need to get bigger.
