PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – As he delivered gifts to a Penguins season ticket holder on Monday, Pens captain Sidney Crosby said there are a lot of narratives out there about his future in Pittsburgh and not a lot are coming from him. He said this definitively.
“This is where I want to be, I love it here.”
Crosby said he can’t keep having to answer the same question over again just because someone says or writes something. He said he can’t control that. Crosby said it’s normal for that stuff to come up when you lose and it’s been three straight years out of the playoffs.
All of this became a story after Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson, said a trade is ‘always a possibility’ and it depends on how the Pens are going to be this year. The fact that it was regarding Montreal made it an even bigger story, especially in Canada. The reason the agent’s comments weigh more here is because Crosby has a no-trade clause he would have to wave if the Pens even thought about doing that.
Sid said he didn’t talk with Brisson before he made those comments. Crosby said Brisson knows how much he puts into a season and the sport. And how much he wants to get back to the playoffs. Now 38-years-old, Crosby feels his agent was potentially feeling for him because of the recent losing.
“I’m not sitting here looking for anyone to feel sorry for me,” Crosby said. “That’s the circumstances and I’m more than happy to address it, but there are a ton of narratives that didn’t come from me. It’s kinda hard to keep answering questions about all of these hypothetical situations that didn’t necessarily come from me.”
Crosby went back to what the City of Pittsburgh means to him, recalling his first day here not knowing much about the area and how many people showed up to support him at the airport after he was drafted. He said he has so many relationships, memories, teammates, fans tied to Pittsburgh.
“I’m so grateful, thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to play here as long as I have,” Crosby said. “I think anyone who knows me, knows what the city means to me. How special it is. I don’t take those rumors or things lightly.”
“This is where I want to be. It’s a special place.”
