PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pirates placed left-handed pitcher Ryan Borucki on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Saturday with left triceps inflammation. They have recalled the reliever who had the save on Opening Day.
The 30-year-old has appeared in four games this season, 3.1 innings pitched, four hits, two runs, no walks and six strikeouts. Borucki was a find for the Pirates last year, 4-0, 2.45 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 38 appearances with 33 strikeouts to four walks.
Recalled is left-handed pitcher Jose Hernandez from Triple-A Indianapolis. He was called up last-minute at the start of the season due to Roansy Contreras leaving the team for the birth of his child. Hernandez had a combined two scoreless innings in two appearances.
Last year with the Pirates, Hernandez pitched in 50 games with a 4.97 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 62 strikeouts to 22 walks in 50.2 innings.
