PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Opening Day just a few days away in Cincinnati and the Pirates made a few other moves to get down to 32 players on the active roster.
Non-roster invitees, corner infielder Drew Maggi and infielder Chris Owings were both reassigned to the minor leagues. Pitcher Tyler Chatwood, assigned to Triple A camp.
Owings was hitting .250 this Spring with a couple of doubles and a homer. The utility infielder is 31-years-old and has played for Arizona, Kansas City, Colorado, Baltimore and the Yankees previously. The big, right-hand hitting Maggi was acquired late last season from the Phillies and spent some time in AAA. A 2010 Bucs 15th round draft pick, Maggi hit .212 in AAA last year with 16 doubles and no homers in 94 games.
The 33-year-old Chatwood was signed in December with an invitation to Spring Training. The righty was the Angles second round pick in 2008 pitching in 229 career MLB games with a 4.45 ERA. He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021 when he made 32 relief appearances between the Blue Jays and Giants with a 5.63 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.
