MLB Pipeline talked to front office executives from all 30 Major League teams to get their input on who they think the best prospects are going into 2024.
When it comes to pitcher, Pirates first overall draft pick Paul Skenes runs away with it, getting 59 percent of the voting.
Andrew Painter with the Phillies finished second with 12 percent for reference.
MLB.com says Skenes is the best pitching prospect with Stephen Strasburg, something that was said before and after he was drafted.
“He may follow the same path and make his big league debut sooner rather than later this year, a reason why he got some support in the Rookie of the Year voting,” MLB.com said
Skenes appeared in five games in the Pirates farm system last season, one in the Florida Complex League, two at Low-A Bradenton and two in Double-A Altoona.
He has a 5.40 ERA over those five appearances in 6.2 innings giving up five hits, four earned runs and had 10 strike outs.
While Skenes will probably not start the season north in Pittsburgh, MLB Pipeline has the 21-year-old making his debut with the Pirates this coming season.
Skenes is the Pirates top prospect and third in the entire MLB.
